Hey there!
We have now arrived in Cairns ready to settle down for a while and enjoy our last bit of Australia!
Staying in a funky little hostel, in perhaps the worlds smallest double room. But at least it is clean and has a comfy bed (reeealy not something you can count on in a hostel!) and it has been organised in true Jodi-style so that we have plenty of room.
Cairns is ridiculously hot! that's all there is to say so far, we spent the day sweating by the fake lagoon in the town (seems to be quite a common thing in towns in Oz - def not complaining though!) and making plans for the rest of our time here. The plan is mostly to do nothing and spend as little as possible as we have some pretty extravagant plans for the other days here. No1, we are doing a bungy jump in 3 days time! and we are scared already! We are also doing something called Minjin, whish is basically being strapped together onto a rope and being swung over the jungle. Good times! :S we'll let you know how that turns out...
And, no2, and even more terrifying for Jodi, we have just booked a 4 day open water diving course. So we have to go to school for 2 days doing lots of theory work and practicing in pools, and then we go on a 2 day one night cruise on the barrier reef doing lots of dives! Incidently, Stu will turn 23 while we are out on the boat so quite a memorable birthday there!
Main excitement so far in Cairns was the blackout last night! It covered all of Northern Queensland, and of course happened just as it was getting dark and just as we were hoping for showers and dinner. Sooo, after a cold shower (in the dark) and a luke warm drink (also in the dark), and as it was starting to get reeealy warm with no air con, the power finally came back on and we were able to dash to a local restaurant about 8 to get some dinner! We were nearly very miserable hot hungry people! Topped off a pretty hectic day really. Quantas had also had issues with the luggage ticket printers going down, meaning they were handwriting every ticket and we were waiting for two hours in the queue just to check our luggage! Yet again walked straight on to the plane from security, we are making a habit of this!
Ooh, also, forgot to mention Australia Zoo, which was very cool and full of much angry crocodile feeding! The demonstration we went to was done by Steve Irwin's wife and kids (school holidays!) so we were quite lucky there! Also, Jodi was savagely attacked by a wild lizard (can you tell its me writing this). To explain, there were water dragons roaming the zoo freely, and they had a habit of jumping out as you walked past. I was just unfortunate and hapened to almost step on one and it whipped me with its very rough tail and grazed my ankle! adding that to all the lovely insect bites, scars and scratches, you can imagine how sexy my legs are looking right now - not even the tan will hide it!!! So, all in all, it was a lovely day, despite the best efforts of the bus driver taking is to and from the zoo who talked for the FULL 1 hour 15min travel, describing every bit of the zoo before we got there, talk about ruining the suprise!!
So anyway, i have rambled for long enough, get back to work all of you! and have fun at the pub or whatever you are doing this friday evening! its happy hour here now so we are off for a nice jug of beer!
lots of love xxxxx
